Event travel questions
The things people ask most before booking flights for a major event.
When is the right time to book event flights from Peru?
From Lima Jorge Chávez (LIM) the sweet spot for sol fares opens 14 to 22 weeks before the event. LATAM Perú drops promotions on Tuesday morning Lima time, while Avianca, Sky and JetSMART refresh on Wednesday. For Cosquín Rock, Lollapalooza Chile or any Libertadores final in South America, 12 weeks ahead is enough. For European festivals (Tomorrowland, Primavera Sound, Glastonbury) and US ones (Coachella, Rolling Loud, Lollapalooza Chicago), the golden window is 100 to 130 days, just before the typical 4-to-6-week jump. For the 2026 World Cup across the US, Mexico and Canada, the cheapest sol buckets surface in waves — set an alert as soon as your match ticket clears, and ticket the moment fare class Q reopens. Shifting departure to Tuesday or Wednesday usually trims 250 to 600 soles.
Which Peruvian airport gives travelers the cheapest international event fares?
Lima Jorge Chávez (LIM) carries the deepest long-haul network in the country, with non-stops to Madrid, Amsterdam, Paris, Miami, New York, Bogotá, Santiago and São Paulo and head-to-head competition between LATAM, Avianca, Iberia, Air France-KLM, American and United. Cusco (CUZ) is mostly regional — Bogotá on Avianca, Lima on LATAM and Sky — but that Bogotá hop can be a hidden door to cheaper US fares via Avianca. Arequipa (AQP) flies mostly to Lima and Santiago; useful when the event sits in Chile (Lollapalooza Chile, Primavera Sound Santiago). Always price all three airports in a multi-city search before clicking buy — gaps frequently exceed 800 soles.
Is it worth flying out of Cusco or Arequipa or should I always start in Lima?
It depends. For most events in Europe and the US East Coast, Lima makes obvious sense thanks to deep network. But for destinations where Avianca runs direct CUZ-BOG service or Sky operates AQP-SCL, leaving from the provinces sometimes shaves 300 to 700 soles off the Lima fare once domestic taxes are factored in. CUZ-BOG is an underrated hidden door to the United States: in many months, CUZ-BOG-MIA on Avianca costs fewer soles than LIM-MIA non-stop. Same logic for AQP-SCL-LAX for Coachella in certain windows. Firm rule: price all three origins in one multi-city search before booking.
How do I plan a multi-city event trip once I leave Peru?
The smart play is a single multi-city ticket within one alliance (Star, oneworld or SkyTeam) — usually cheaper than stacking one-ways and far better protected if a leg slips. For the 2026 World Cup across the United States, Mexico and Canada, American, Delta, United, Aeroméxico, Volaris and Air Canada cover every host city; book the internal legs the same day as your international ticket because they sell out fast. Across Europe, Ryanair, Vueling, easyJet and Wizz Air run the cheapest hops between festival cities. For sub-700 km journeys in Spain, Italy or France, Renfe AVE, Trenitalia and SNCF beat flying once airport transfer time is included. In South America, GOL, Sky, JetSMART and LATAM connect Libertadores and Sudamericana host cities.
What visas does a Peruvian passport holder need for events abroad?
The Peruvian passport is generous. The Schengen Area, the UK, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay admit Peruvians visa-free for short stays — passport plus return ticket is enough. The United States demands a B1/B2 with an in-person interview at the embassy in Surco, and slots tighten badly around the Super Bowl, Coachella and the 2026 World Cup, so request your appointment the moment the event ticket clears. Canada uses an eTA (CAD$7, online), Australia an ETA, New Zealand an eVisitor — all minutes-fast but heavy near major events. The UK has rolled out an ETA that should be filed several weeks ahead. In Asia, Japan, South Korea and Singapore admit Peruvians for up to 90 days. Always reread the consulate page within a month of departure.
What can I do if my sol fare drops after I book?
LATAM Perú and Avianca publish Flex tariffs that allow date changes without penalty (or with a small fee) provided the new flight has the same fare class — read the rules before paying so you know which bucket you bought. Low-cost carriers (Sky, JetSMART) charge for changes but sometimes refund vouchers when you bought their Flex Combo. International majors (American, United, Delta, Air France, KLM) have removed nearly all change fees on main cabin and above. If you have not booked yet, leave our alert running on LIM, CUZ or AQP — we ping you the second the fare slips. A Peruvian-issued Visa Signature, Mastercard Black or Amex Platinum bundles trip-disruption cover that softens the blow if the event reschedules.
